Coca-Cola Amatil Young New Zealander of the Year – Sam Judd

Coca-Cola Amatil NZ Ltd is pleased to confirm that Sam Judd is the fourth winner of the Young New Zealander of the Year category, which the company has sponsored since the inaugural awards in 2010. Sam Judd is the co-founder and CEO of Sustainable Coastlines which educates the public about the consequences of marine debris, and he was announced as the Coca-Cola Amatil Young New Zealander of the Year at the awards presentation in Auckland last evening.

“This recognition is a sign of how important our cause is. My aim is to change behavior in all New Zealanders and how they deal with rubbish,” says Mr Judd.

“We are proud to be involved with these awards because it demonstrates our commitment to inspiring young people to reach their potential. We see it as a great way to help build a brighter future for New Zealand,” says George Adams, Managing Director, Coca-Cola Amatil NZ.

Sam, from Auckland, was awarded the title over fellow finalists Sophie Pascoe (from Christchurch who won three gold and three silver medals at the 2012 London Paralympics) and Assil Russel (from Hamilton who established the “Revive a Smile” programme to help disadvantaged people with free dental care).

He joins a prestigious line up of previous winners:

- 2012 Sam Johnson, who was the founder of the Student Volunteer Army in Christchurch which helped with the clean-up of Christchurch following its two major earthquakes

- 2011 Jamie Fenton, who invented the Safe Sound Indicator for classrooms which is now produced by the National Foundation for the Deaf

- 2010 Divyar Dhar, a talented young doctor who went on to secure a Fulbright Scholarship to study in the US
