Football Is Kicking Off At The Octagon
The country’s most passionate supporters, the Yellow Fever, are returning to Dunedin to support their team the Wellington Phoenix, and want you to join them for a festival of football at the Octagon on Saturday 2 March.
Dunedin City Mayor Dave Cull will be there to welcome fans and officials from the Wellington Phoenix and Melbourne Heart.
Both teams are set for a Hyundai A-League clash the following day at Forsyth Barr Stadium.
The mayor will kick festivities off (literally) on the temporary football field set up on the Octagon lawn at 1pm. There will be a chance for the public to win some great prizes from sponsors Sony and Revera, while popular Phoenix Mascot "Nixie" is flying from Wellington to entertain the children.
A spokesman for the enthusiastic ‘Southern Chapter’ of Yellow Fever said that everyone is invited to participate in this unique opportunity to play football on the Octagon lawn in the heart of the city.
Otago United players will be present, and in a major coup Olly Bowman (football freestyler as seen on ‘New Zealand's Got Talent’) will put on a show to teach children (and the adults) some of his tricks. A sausage sizzle will be running in support of Melchester Junior Football Club.
WHAT: Yellow Fever A-League buildup
WHERE: Upper Octagon Lawn, Dunedin
