Three National Tours!
Operatunity Entertainment Ltd celebrates a first this month, three National Tours of three different shows with three different casts all running at the same time. As an example of the versatility of this Company those three shows are an eclectic mix - tours of Broadway songs, Rock and Roll and Opera.
For a Company that receives no Government funding or assistance from Creative New Zealand and survives solely on box office this is an Entertainment success story. They did however receive letters of congratulations from the Prime Minister and Arts Minister on their 10th Anniversary. Operatunity prepares casts, markets, tickets in house, handles all logistics of airfares, motels, theatres and all associated “on road” details with a staff of 5 in their office. These are bespoke shows and not “bought” shows and casts from overseas. This busy Company has 11 National Tours occurring this year from Kerikeri to Invercargill.
Operatunity Director Geoffrey Hughes says “There is a saying that overnight success takes 10 years of hard work, in that case we’re an overnight success”.
Susan Boland, Operatunity Director credits the audience for their success “Right from the start our audiences embraced us and they were the ones who spread the word and grew our concerts. We still have regulars who came to our first series 11 years ago and even have people who’ve met at our concerts and married. The social as well as musical atmosphere makes our shows special. ”
The Daytime Concert Series and Evening Concert Series are presented by Operatunity, a company which presents over 250 concerts per year in 27 venues throughout New Zealand. From its humble beginnings 11 years ago The Daytime Concert Series has gained an enviable position in the calendar of tens of thousands of concert goers throughout New Zealand who enjoy the experience that Operatunity offers of professional quality shows with some light hearted fun and laughter mixed in. The Operatunity Entertainment Ltd has become the largest employer of professional singers and artists of its type in New Zealand.
Eleven concert series are presented this year in the variety Daytime Concert Series and Evening Concert Series, an eclectic mixture of shows ranging, this year, from Opera to Popera, Forbidden Broadway, Music for Romantics, The Great Crooners, The Greatest Song Ever Written, If You’re Irish, Rock the 50s, 60s & 70s, Hell on Wheels, An Evening at the Opera and The Royal Variety Christmas Show.
