Performance legends appear on small screen
KISS, Queen, Kylie Minogue, ACDC and Bon Jovi and other top acts perform on Face Television (Auckland UHF Channel 41, Sky 089) in a new series kicking off on Friday, March 8 at 8:30pm.
“The Tribute Show” features tributes of
modern and classic bands you will swear are the real
deal.
Some of these performers spend thousands of dollars to get the right sound and “look” down to makeup and costumes then even to backup singers, dancers and staging. Several acts are so credible that they go on to their own international stardom in full-time touring “tribute shows”.
“The Tribute Show” that screens on Face Television evolved from an idea developed by Australians Jon Powers and Nick Missailidis who were working together on another TV show.
Jon Powers had become known as a tribute performer while Nick Missailidis had worked on a cruise ship, which featured a plethora of impersonator bands and performers among its on-board entertainment line-up. Together Powers and Missailidis developed the idea of a television programme featuring such performances.
Shortly after Nick was filming an event that featured entertainer and comedian Tony Lewis who was performing as Jerry Lewis. Lewis’ performance was so good that Nick immediately called Jon and suggested he see this outstanding performance.
When Jon saw Tony perform, the three unanimously agreed they had found their host and the three set off to create the unique entertainment programme that has become “The Tribute Show”
