Key Appointments at APO

Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra (APO) is pleased to announce appointments to two key roles. From 31 March APO Board of Trustees Chair Dame Rosanne Meo takes a new position as Patron of the orchestra. She joins a select group comprising Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Dame Catherine Tizard and Sir James Wallace.

The role frees Dame Rosanne to devote more of her time to advocating for the APO.

“The Government’s orchestral sector review is a critical first step in securing the future of the APO,” says Dame Rosanne. “However, there is still much work to be done to ensure a sustainable future, and as Patron I’ll work closely with the Board and the APO’s Chief Executive, Barbara Glaser, to secure a sustainable and exciting future for the Orchestra.”

The APO Board has unanimously voted Geraint Martin to succeed Dame Rosanne as Chair. Mr Martin is Chief Executive of the Counties Manukau District Health Board. Additionally, he is a member of the Institute of Directors, sits on the Advisory Board of the New Zealand Centre for Social Innovation and is a Board member of The New Zealand Health Quality and Safety Commission and the NZ Institute of Health Management. Mr Martin has sat on the APO Board since 2009.

Barbara Glaser thanked Dame Rosanne for her stand-out contribution to the APO and praised Mr Martin’s skills.

“The APO would not be where it is today without the dedicated leadership Dame Rosanne has shown over more than a decade including nearly eight years as Board Chair. She has led the Orchestra through some difficult times and taken us to where we are now – a leading arts organisation in New Zealand, and a flagship organisation for Auckland as it grows into an international city. Geraint Martin has all the knowledge and experience the APO needs from a Chairman as we head in to the future. His ability as a strategist is second to none, and he will be heading a strong Board that has the full range of skills and expertise we need.”

Geraint Martin says: “I look forward to continuing Dame Rosanne’s work; we are standing on the shoulders of a giant. Rosanne has fantastic networks, great leadership skills and the orchestra is in her heart. I think we’ll be a strong team.”

The APO Board is delighted to see Mr Martin take the Chair and is looking forward to continuing its work under his leadership. With the change in roles, the APO Board is taking the opportunity to expand its number from seven to nine. The new appointments are expected to be made within the next few months.
