Revisiting Conversations: Legendary New Zealand writer for and about children.
Face Television (formerly Triangle Television) is currently re-broadcasting the cream of episodes from the 2012 season
of "In Conversation with Noel Cheer". The Conversations demonstrate the value to be found in gently inquisitive
discussions, in contrast to the more inquisitorial style.
This week's returning guest was born nearly 88 years ago and was given the name Muriel Dorothy Norgrove. Along the way
she married Roy Butler and so we know her today as Dorothy Butler OBE.
She grew up to be one of New Zealand’s legendary writers for children and about children. She is a passionate advocate
for the importance of reading in the life of the growing child. She wrote this just over 30 years ago:
“For relationships, minds have to engage. Ideas are essential, and books constitute a superlative source of ideas. Books
can be bridges between children and parents, and children and the world.”
