Colour
Bomb To Go Off At Get It On! Big Gay
Out
Take a summer
day, a white shirt, a whole lot of coloured chalk bombs and
hundreds of screaming, excited people and what do you get?
The Get it On! Big Gay Out’s Rainbow
Run!
This colourful event
is one of a two premier experiences at the Get it On! Big
Gay Out – the other is being kept top secret until it’s
activated on the day. New Zealand’s favourite day for the
LGBTI community, their friends and family, is on this
Sunday, 10 February at Coyle Park, Pt Chevalier, Auckland
from 12-7pm.
Inspired by the Indian Festival of Colour and similar events around the world the Rainbow Run is a unique experience focused less on speed and more on crazy colour fun with friends and family.
Get it On! spokesperson Joe Rich says there are only two guidelines for festival-goes wanting to participate on the day: “Remember to bring a white shirt, and be prepared to get plastered in coloured chalk powder!
“By the end, you’ll look like you fell into a tie dyed vat of coloured goodness,” he adds.
All products used in the Rainbow Run are 100% natural and safe - you can eat the stuff if you’d like, though we don’t recommend that.
The event is situated next to the Dance tent and will be running throughout the day for people to join in the fun.
Other experiences to look out for at the Big Gay Out include the Durex Perfect Glide Slide, dance tents, market stalls, face painting, the Big Gay Out dog competition and acts at the Durex Main Stage including the Get it On! Underwear Parade, Drag Queen shows, community performances and of course our headline acts Maree Sheehan, Brooke Duff, and Kids of 88.
“If you happen to be near the sitting area in front of the stage at say, 5pm, then you might be in for a fun surprise,” Rich says. “Though of course I’m not giving anything away just get!”
All we’ll says is watch out for balls.

ABOUT THE EVENT
The Get
it On! Big Gay Out is New Zealand’s premier event for the
rainbow communities. It is both a celebration of sexual and
gender diversity and of condom use, providing an opportunity
to deliver safe sex messaging to more than 14,000 people
every year. Latest research shows that the impact of HIV is
greatest in Auckland; 1 in 15 gay or bisexual men in the
city is living with HIV and of them, 20% are unaware they
have it.
Now in its 14th year, the 2013 Get it On! Big Gay Out is the launch event for the 2013 Pride Festival. The Durex main stage will feature performances from Kids of 88, Brooke Duff and Maree Sheehan, along with loads of community acts. There will be more than 80 market stalls offering everything from food and retail to information and support. The NZAF Burnett Centre will again be on site to provide free and confidential sexual health and HIV testing with results communicated the following week.
