BNT V8 Supertourers Go Green

BNT V8 Supertourers Go Green

Auckland, 08 February 2013 - BNT V8 SuperTourers today announced an intention to reduce its carbon footprint by 2014 with a move to Gull Force 10 fuel from the start of this season.

“We will move to a 10% ethanol blended fuel this year in preparation for going to an 85% Ethanol blend next year in partnership with Gull New Zealand, who blend their 98 Octane Force 10 fuel using ethanol produced as a by-product of the New Zealand milk industry,” said Mark Petch, Managing Director of BNT V8 SuperTourers.

“While we have been using a premium unleaded 98 octane pump fuel to date, we believe we need to do more to help dispel the public perception that motor racing is synonymous with loud noise and cars causing pollution. With the support of Gull Force 10, that is easily achievable for us.

“Gull has taken significant steps to support Motorsport in promoting its ethanol-based fuel. We have made the decision to lead mainstream motorsport on a path where we strive to become carbon neutral, significantly reducing exhaust gas pollution from racing by 2014,” he added.

Engine tuner and V8ST Technical Delegate David Heedegan said there were significant technical benefits to using Gull Force 10 for engines too.

“I have been using ethanol-based fuels in motorsport for some years now and recommended to the V8ST Board that we make the move to Gull Force 10 this year instead of waiting another year to move to 85% Ethanol (E85).

“In my experience the engines will benefit from running at cooler temperatures, and be more resistant to detonation using Gull Force 10. When we make the move to Gull Force Pro running temperatures are expected to drop even further and carbon monoxide levels will drop by 10%. This is a big plus for the environment and V8ST’s aims to lead by example in going green.”

Gull New Zealand Business Development and Brand Manager Ulrik Olsen says: “We are very proud to be partnering with BNT V8SuperTourers and support its long-term vision to move towards a cleaner form of racing.

“Users of our fuel will already know the mechanical and economic benefits of using Gull Force 10 and to have the fuel being used at the premier level of motor in racing New Zealand is a testament to our values for a cleaner, better form of fuel for Kiwi motorists,” said Olsen.

Gull Force 10 fuel is available at most Gull Stations throughout their North Island network.

About Gull
Gull New Zealand is the independent oil company that is credited with keeping the fuel market competitive and giving savings to the Kiwi motorist. It has become a serious player, offering a real choice for motorists in an extremely competitive market. The company remains today a family owned operation.

Gull New Zealand was founded in 1998 by the Rae family who saw the need and potential for an independent energy supplier. Adherence to a philosophy of low cost management, prudent investment decisions and a carefully planned marketing strategy commenced with the building of a state of the art terminal in Mount Maunganui in 1998. Tanks were relocated from Marsden Point by barge, a feat the opposition said was “impossible”.

Gull New Zealand made the first retail sales of petrol in 1999 and has grown the network to over 40 branded sites.

Gull has been a first mover in introducing innovative new products to the New Zealand energy market. These include low sulphur diesel bringing environmental benefits well ahead of the opposition, as well as New Zealand’s first biofuel, Gull Force 10 (a 10% ethanol mixed with premium gasoline giving higher octane and cleaner performance).

2010 saw Gull achieve another first and extend its environmental focus with release of Gull Diesel Max, a high quality bio diesel blend sourced from sustainable New Zealand vegetable oil.

Gull now has four service stations that only sell bio fuels which is another first for New Zealand.
