Calling New Zealand’s Future Prime Ministers And Community Leaders
The Sir Peter Blake Trust, in association with Westpac, has opened nominations online for the 2013 Sir Peter Blake Young Leader Awards.
The awards recognise and celebrate young people who have shown promising leadership in their school or in their communities. Student nominees must be between nine and 13 years old and can be nominated for an award by their teachers and peers.
Sir Peter Blake’s son James Blake, a keen sailor and adventurer, who was part of the first Kiwi rowing team to cross the Tasman, in an effort to raise funds and awareness around the health of our oceans, says:
“My father loved to see young Kiwis standing tall and daring to dream and he encouraged my sister and I, as children, to both dare to achieve our dreams - be it in a boat, on the sports field or in the classroom. The Sir Peter Blake Young Leader Awards is a fantastic way to recognise New Zealand’s best and brightest young leaders and I look forward to hearing plenty of stories of inspiring young leaders in the months to come.”
Sir Peter Blake Trust CEO Shelley Campbell says she finds it heartening to see how the traits of legendary Kiwi leaders, like Sir Peter Blake, are illustrated in the nominations the Trust receives for the Sir Peter Blake Young Leader Awards and is hoping to see more than 300 primary and intermediate schools take part in the programme this year.
“New Zealand has an amazing number of young people who display great leadership skills in their schools and within their communities, who inspire their friends and families and work hard to achieve their goals. The Sir Peter Blake Young Leader Awards is a way to recognise these amazing young people, as it will be these young leaders who will be critical to New Zealand’s success in the future.”
Young Leader Award winners are presented with a certificate and medal at a school assembly on Red Socks Day (Friday 11 July) or during the Sir Peter Blake Leadership Week (5-12 July).
To complete a nomination form online or for more information go to www.sirpeterblaketrust.org. Names must be put forward by Friday 10 May. Awards are open to New Zealand primary and intermediate school students aged nine to 13 years.
