Chinese Youth Explore Leadership, Identity And Community
Auckland, New Zealand (31 January, 2013) – New Zealand Chinese Association (NZCA) will hold its annual Leadership and Development Conference (LDC) from 3-8 February at Eastern Beach, Auckland, challenging young people’s perceptions of what it means to be Chinese today.
Over six days, 44 talented young Chinese between the ages of 19 and 30 will discover their potential and place as
Chinese in New Zealand and the world. The conference will deepen their outlook on life as they explore their
relationship with leadership, identity and community.
“The selection process took place towards the end of 2012. The conference will equip those chosen with the confidence
and skills to shape a future society that is strong, proud and inclusive of their stories and communities,” says New
Zealand Chinese Association Auckland Chairman, Richard Leung.
Designed as a storytelling event, NZCA LDC invites high-profile personalities of Chinese descent from across New Zealand to share their leadership journeys with
the delegates. The programme also features a range of outdoor activities, cultural dancing, group discussions and a team
leadership project. The theme for 2013 is ‘Leadership. Identity. Community’. This year’s presenters, drawn from the
creative, media, academic, non-profit, and business communities, include: Lincoln Tan (The New Zealand Herald); Connie Clarkson (Metro); Mai Chen (Chen Palmer); Andrew Young (ex-CEO, Starship Foundation); James Liu (Victoria University of Wellington);
Jade Tang (Curative); Jilnaught Wong (The University of Auckland Business School). Mayor of Auckland, Len Brown, is the
Special Guest Speaker at the Graduation Dinner.
Now in its seventh year, the conference is open to New Zealand born and overseas born Chinese. For the first time in the
history of LDC, the conference opens its arms to international delegates from the US and Australia.
