Sounds Aotearoa Online Community ‘Sound Mixer’
The website portal, the ‘Sound Mixer’ was launched today by Sounds Aotearoa, to link Māori and Pacific musicians and professionals with the music industry here in New Zealand and internationally.
Sounds Aotearoa, the Music Expo showcasing Māori and Pacific music to the global market including workshop presentations from leading international music industry professionals, is now part of the 2013 Auckland Arts Festival on 10-11 March 2013.
“Though Māori and Pacific musicians regularly appear in the charts complimenting a ‘unique New Zealand sound’ the music industry still has a long way to go in maximizing the potential of the indigenous pacific contribution”, says Sounds Aotearoa event director Emere Wano.
“With Sounds Aotearoa established as part of this year’s Auckland Arts Festival we believe by creating this virtual hub we will develop an online community that will take our indigenous music industry to another level.”
Membership benefits will include being connected to the music industry 365 days and registration is free for a limited period of time advises Ms Wano.
“We recognise that the music business is a highly competitive environment so we want to encourage Maori and Pacific musicians, managers, anyone involved in supporting our indigenous pacific music to take up the free membership opportunity and become part of the drive to strengthen our industry.”
