Dingle Dell Reserve to ring with opera
On Saturday 2 February, opera will ring throughout Dingle Dell Reserve in St Heliers thanks to some of New Zealand’s
most talented opera singers performing as part of Auckland Council’s Music in Parks series.
Jude Froude, Artistic Administrator NBR New Zealand Opera, says the Auckland Council Music in Parks event is a fantastic
way to start the year for the singers, and the environment encourages a wonderful connection between performers and
audience.
“It’s such a fun event to be involved with and, because it’s outdoors and free, it helps break down the elitist
stereotype that opera can suffer from. We’ve put together a very exciting programme featuring well-known arias with a
few interesting pieces thrown in as well.”
Mayor Len Brown says the wide array of musical genres included in the Music in Parks summer programme means that there’s
something for everyone.
“We do our best to put on a series where anyone can take a look through the programme and find a gig that appeals to
them, whether they’re into country, folk or hip hop music – or they want to sample something new. With this event, we
know we have opera fans covered, and anyone who has ever wanted to check it out. It’s a pleasure to showcase our
talented opera singers in Dingle Dell Reserve.”
The performance features Edward Laurenson and Kieran Rayner (Freemasons Dame Malvina Major Emerging Artists), as well as
the company's regular resident artist line-up. Singers will be accompanied by Robert Wiremu and the evening compered by
John Rosser.
Auckland Council’s Music in Parks 2013 programme features more than 40 performances from 2 January – 24 March 24.
