Young Artists Recieve Prizes!
A recent colouring competition held at the Ashburton Art Gallery saw 6 young budding artists receive prizes, a certificate and compliments on their creative work. The competition was held in conjunction with the Dunedin Public Art Gallery’s’ touring exhibition Haunts of Dickens which celebrated the bicentenary of Charles Dickens’s birth. The delightful summer show which had over 1400 visitors was extremely popular with locals and tourists alike.
The colouring competition which was available from both the Gallery and Library had 41 entries in total with the youngest being 3 years old and the eldest 12. The first prize was won by 11 year old Rosie Smith, Second prize was awarded to 7 year old Sarah Wilson, and third prize was given to 6 year old Olivia Hansen. The judging was a particularly hard task for the Gallery staff with there being “over a dozen that really stood out, we wish we could have given a prize to all of the entrants”. Highly commended certificates and prizes were also gifted to Ella McDowell aged 5, Diana Barbu aged 12, and Jacob Swan aged 9.
