Half way through the SCIRT World Buskers Festival! Mid-way update
Today marks the half way point of the SCIRT World Buskers Festival in Christchurch. Audiences are larger than last year
and performers kept a bumper crowd happy on Sunday afternoon.
Festival Manager Leyton Tremain says that shows are filling up fast, but some people do miss out.
“Attendees are a lot more organised this year, securing seats early and turning up to shows well before they start to
get a good seat and have a drink. Those who wait till the last minute will miss out,” he said.
Mr Tremain also said that word is spreading about the new acts.
“As the festival continues and word of mouth grows, crowds are picking up on the success of Festival debutants such as
the fabulous Le Gateau Chocolat,” said Mr Tremain.
Buskers Burlesque is also proving a crowd favourite with a full house last Thursday and Friday nights.
Tried and tested crowd favourite acts like The Topp Twins are back and performed at the SCIRT Comedy Club to a large
crowd. The show was well received especially when the popular pair poked good natured fun at Earthquake Recovery
Minister, Hon. Gerry Brownlee.
Japanese superstars GAMARJOBAT, presented by Ingham, are here for a strictly limited six night run. This internationally
renowned act has been hugely popular and can still be seen with two shows left.
“It was a great show. I’ve got sore tummy muscles from laughing so hard. Everyone should come along and see these guys,”
said Becki Lake, from Sydenham.
“I thought it was great. I didn’t know what to expect but it was really good fun,” said Nick Carter, from Sumner.
Performances this evening (Monday 21 January) include:
· The SCIRT Busker Comedy Club. MC’d by Lords of Strut with Blackstreet Boyz, ALAKAZAM, Becky Hoops, Hilby, YoYo Guy and
Mim & Danny.
· Keith Preene’s Golden Goose Bingo at the Gap Filler Pallet Pavilion.
· The Press Club hosts GAMARJOBAT (R16), Le Gateau Chocolat and Buskers Burlesque.
Event organisers want to remind those wanting to soak up some festival atmosphere that:
o Entry to BUSKER PARK and ALL DAYTIME SHOWS is FREE.
o Entry to the SCIRT Busker Comedy Club is only $2, doors open nightly at 6pm.
o Seats for all indoor evening shows are available from the SCIRT World Buskers Festival bookings booth in Busker Park
on the day of the show from 11am and you can secure your seat for these sell out shows.
