Hot pizzas for NZ Deaf Parent Conference 2013

Media release : 14 January 2013

Hot pizzas for NZ Deaf Parent Conference 2013

Deaf/hearing impaired parents and their children can now enjoy a hot slice of pizza for free at the second NZ Deaf Parent Conference in January 25-27 2013 at Living Springs, Governors Bay, in Christchurch - courtesy of Domino's.
The event, which includes a series of educational workshops for CODAs (Children of Deaf Adult) and Deaf children, gives families the opportunity to share the challenges they face raising hearing impaired children. The conference will include a range of expert speakers and educators.

Domino's franchisee Bruce Chen, who owns the Domino's stores in Te Atatu South and Henderson, says that the conference coordinator approached him directly for sponsorship last year (May 2012) when the event was held in West Auckland, and he is thrilled the company is able to continue their support of the conference.
"I joined the Domino's family about 18 months ago and one of the sponsorship requests that came through the Henderson store was from the conference coordinator of the NZ Deaf Parent Conference. It ended up a donation of pizzas in our most popular flavours and 10 garlic breads and personally delivered it to the conference.

"It was a very touching atmosphere actually, they were just regular Kiwi families with a few extra challenges than your average NZ'er - and the kids especially really appreciated having the pizzas. If the conference was still being held in Auckland, I wouldn't hesitate to do it again!" says Chen.
NZ Deaf Parent Conference coordinator, Monica Leach says that it is wonderful the partnership between the conference and Domino's has been able to continue this year.

"We would like to say a huge thank you to Domino's, including the Henderson franchise that donated the pizzas for the 2012 conference in Auckland. The weekend is normally very busy and we receive a significant amount of positive feedback from participants, and our hope is that this conference will occur annually from now on, following trends in the US and UK.
"The pizzas at this year's conference were very popular, I think Bruce from Domino's was surprised that we managed to get through them all! I anticipate that this will be repeated at next year's conference," says Leach.
