The Hearts Will Have Their Captain
Victoria Lind Back On Board For Sunday’s One Day Final
Against The Canterbury Magicians At Melville Park.
Lind suffered a dislocated knee in the first
one day clash against the Magicians back in December and
missed the last round of games against the Wellington
Blaze.
However she passed a fitness test during the week
and will take her place at the top of the order and behind
the stumps for the Hearts on Sunday.
Her presence will
strengthen an already powerful and in-form batting line-up
that has passed the 200 mark six times already this season
in the one day competition.
The Hearts come into the final with by far the better record of the two sides having won eight out of ten of their one day games, whilst Canterbury won only five and made the final by having picked up more bonus point wins than Wellington.
That record though is not something that the Hearts will be focusing on according to Lind.
“We’re really proud of the way we’ve played the round robin and it gives you confidence but that largely goes out the window on Sunday. We know that we’ve got to turn up and continue that form to beat Canterbury, it’s a one off game so you essentially start all over again.”
The good news for the Hearts is that they have history on their side having toppled the Magicians in last year’s final. That win was built around a magical century from West Indian Stafanie Taylor but with no Taylor this year it will be other players who will need to step up if the Hearts want to make it back to back titles.
Lind however doesn’t think that will be a problem.
“Stafanie was great for us last year and she probably showed us what was possible. I think one of the great things about this season is that we’ve picked up where she left off in playing really positive cricket and any number of players have put in match-winning performances. We’ve got a great belief in each other to get the job done.”
The women’s domestic one day final takes place at Melville Park this Sunday January 13 with the game getting underway at 10.30am.
