Variety Seeks Talented Singers for All-Inclusive Youth Choir
Variety – The Children’s Charity is calling for singing stars aged 7-18 years to step up and audition for Variety Voices – the charity’s all-star performance group.
Variety Voices is a unique group of approximately 30 young New Zealand performers, some able-bodied, some sick, disabled or disadvantaged, brought together by a love of song, dance and musical performance. This is no ordinary choir – think Glee!, think Idol, think X-Factor!
“Variety is fully committed to removing barriers and promoting inclusivity for Kiwi kids, and Variety Voices is a group that really reflects this,” says Lorraine Taylor, CEO, Variety – The Children’s Charity.
“This is an opportunity for young people of all abilities to come together and produce entertaining and inspirational performances, overcoming their personal challenges to bring joy to others. We’re looking for singing stars with energy, vitality, commitment and a love of performing… so if this sounds like you or anyone you know, please come forward!” said Lorraine.
In 2012 Variety Voices performed at many public and private events including a performance with Variety Ambassador Elizabeth Marvelly to an audience of over 800 people at The Warehouse Supplier and Awards Dinner, a performance alongside Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters’ during his Auckland concerts of ‘The Wall’ as well as performances at The InterAct Festival and The New Zealand Women’s Weekly 80th Anniversary event.
Professional musician and composer James Doy helms the group as Music Director, and in 2013 the group can expect special guest mentors to help get them prepared and workshop their performances.
2012 Variety Voices member, Megan Riegel, says joining the choir was the best decision she ever made.
“I really like Variety because it focusses on helping children who don't get the same opportunities as others” she said. “Being a part of Variety Voices was so much fun, I met some amazing people while knowing I was helping out a great charity. I would really encourage anyone who loves to sing, yet may face some personal challenges, to come forward and audition!”
There is no cost to participate, and choir members attend weekly auditions throughout the year.
