Day two of Rhythm and Vines 2012 looked at first like it could be wet, but the Gisborne sunshine pulled through and brought with it an amazing sunset above Waiohika.
The Rhythm Stage was rocking today, and the happy crowd saw openers Five Mile Town test out the new and improved audio system. Hip hop legend Chali 2na drew people into the arena for an upbeat, bass-heavy and energetic set. Eclectic French dance producer Breakbot took the dancing up a notch, before superstar producer Mark Ronson’s massive DJ set drew crowds of 18,900 to the Rhythm Arena. He did not disappoint, with a selection of huge hip hop tunes mixed with his own brand of funk and pop.
Over the hill at the Vines Stage, locals The Wyld, Loui the Zu and Ahoribuzz had big numbers in the amazing natural amphitheatre. Next up, the crew from Hospital Records shook the whole estate for hours - S.P.Y, Camo & Krooked, MC Texas, Logistics, MC Wrec, and High Contrast keep the drum n bass coming and the crowds almost filled the recently enlarged arena to its new capacity of 10,000.
For the second night in a row the Cellar Stage was the late-night place to be, with DJs Danny Daze and Maya Jane Coles playing their first-ever NZ shows.
Day two was an epic mix of different musical styles, with good vibes amongst the crowds all across the festival. The final night, New Year’s Eve, has seen a large number of single-day pre sales and there could in fact be a sell-out crowd on site to see The Presets, Benga, Six60, Krafty Kuts, and Dave Dobbyn.
