Hospi Bike Ride Returns in 2013
Hospi Bike Ride Returns in 2013
Families and cyclists of all skill levels will take to the streets around Kenepuru Hospital in March in the renewed HOSPI Bike Ride.
The Wellington Children’s Hospital charity bike ride, The HOSPI, is returning on Sunday 10th March 2013 with a new focus around family engagement.
The popular ride, named
after the Wellington Children’s Hospital mascot, has been
expanded to include a mountain bike section and rides for
young children.
“The 2013 event will take place
entirely at Kenepuru Hospital. The event will include a
mountain bike ride up Colonial Knob and children's cycling
events at Kenepuru Hospital” says Eddie Bright, Event
Director.
The previous hospital to hospital bike route has been replaced with a safer route on the streets around Kenepuru Hospital and children as young as 8 years of age can take part.
“Amateur and regular cyclists will still find it a bit of challenge” says Mr Bright “They should start training now.”
Changes to the ride that was first held in 2008 as a ride from Kenepuru Hospital to Wellington Hospital were made to improve the safety of the event and to provide greater participation opportunities for families.
Businesses throughout Porirua, Wellington and Hutt Valley are encouraged to support the event as sponsors or to enter cyclists.
“We’ve received some fantastic support from Whittakers and Bunnings Warehouse already and we are looking to grow this support group.” Says Mr Bright.
All funds raised on the day support Wellington Children’s Hospital which treats children from throughout the region including patients from Hawkes Bay, Taranaki and south to Nelson/Marlborough.
