The NZ Rugby Kitchen contains a treasure trove of hearty, tasty recipes from some of New Zealand’s top rugby talent both present and past,
with royalties going to the NZ Rugby Foundation. By taking time out of their busy schedules to participate in this
project all of the players who have contributed have shown how important a charity the New Zealand Rugby Foundation is
to them. The foundation is vital in supporting catastrophically injured rugby players financially and emotionally
through fund-raising and other activities; and proactively works with the New Zealand Rugby Union to communicate the
message of safety first.
Lisa Kingi, CEO for the foundation said “We are absolutely delighted with this news, being shortlisted for the Gourmand
Awards is a great development for us. It’s not all about the financial return for us, whilst vital obviously, it is the
improved public awareness of the Foundation as our key strategic focus and being able to reach so many new sectors
through a creative idea which really excites us. It wouldn’t have been at all possible without the support of the New
Zealand Rugby Union, New Zealand Rugby Players Association and the willingness of the players to contribute to our

The Gourmand awards are extremely prestigious and 154 countries participated in last year’s awards, entering books in 53
categories. All countries, authors and publishers — big and small — are given equal opportunity to enter.

money for the New Zealand Rugby Foundation and celebrate its 25th Anniversary than to pull together the favourite recipes of some of our best loved players.
NZ Rugby Kitchen contains a wide range of dishes from the likes of Richie McCaw, Piri Weepu, Dan Carter, Jerome Kaino, Conrad Smith - the
list goes on - plus past greats such as Colin Meads, Waka Nathan and Buck Shelford.
Fancy a quick weeknight meal? Why not try Keven Mealamu’s Teriyaki Beef, or Waka Nathan’s Fish Supreme. Want a dinner to
impress? How about Victor Vito’s Beef Wellington or Melodie Robinson’s Pork Belly with Baby Beetroot and Lentils.
Oh, and just because most of the recipes have been provided by blokes doesn’t mean there aren’t any sweet treats.
There’s always Sir Graham Henry’s Apple Sponge to end a meal, or Jerome Kaino’s Banana Cake for a lovely afternoon tea.
As well as fabulous recipes the NZ Rugby Kitchen also gives some insights into how well these guys can keep their cool even when they’re not on the field with candid
shots of them relaxing, cooking and enjoying a bit of down time.
