New Zealand Families Desperately Need Your Help Now!

19 December 2012 - Now in its 18th year, the Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal is aiming to collect 40,000 gifts for charity partner the
Salvation Army to distribute to families in need.
Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal spokesperson, Major Bruce Harmer said that the Salvation Army understands that Christmas is a
costly time of year, but there are more families than ever before who need support.
“Sadly many families will do it tough again this Christmas and more families than ever are seeking our support for the
first time,” said Major Harmer.
“We’re asking those New Zealanders who can assist those less fortunate to please do so,” he said. “Just add an extra
gift to your basket and we’ll make sure it gets to somebody who really needs it.
“Providing a gift is something tangible we can all do,” said Major Harmer, “and I’ve seen first-hand how a toy given to
a child at Christmas can make a huge difference”.
Managing Director, Guy Russo, said that the Wishing Tree Appeal is an important activity on the Kmart calendar.
“We’re proud to be able to assist the Salvation Army help those in need and every member of the Kmart team will be doing
what they can to make a difference this Christmas,” said Guy.
To participate in the Appeal, simply place a gift under the Christmas Wishing Tree located in any Kmart store around New
Zealand. Take a gift tag from the tree to identify the age and gender of a suitable recipient and place it with your
gift. Gifts do not have to be purchased at Kmart.
Alternatively, you can make a cash contribution to the Appeal at any Kmart store register or online at http://wishingtree.kmart.co.nz. Cash contributions are converted into Kmart gift cards, which are distributed by The Salvation Army, allowing Appeal
recipients to choose their own Christmas gift.
