Indie Club hosts great new school bands
This Friday December 21 (not Thursday as is usual) Indie Club is very pleased to announce a very special bill, featuring talented school bands Nightwing, Exit 420 and Between the Lines.
‘Nightwing’ evolved from Belmont Intermediate School. They won both the North Shore and Auckland Regional Intermediate Battle of the Bands in 2011. Tama Warren and Jack Cantrell (now at Takapuna Grammar school) both won Regional ’Best Guitarists’ awards and Harry Charles won ‘Best Drummer’ in the North Shore final. Jess Groennydyk fronts the band as the lead singer and she is now joined by Jac Roberts on vocals and twin brother Alex Roberts who plays the bass.
‘Nightwing’ are mentored by Leon Jacobs who has inspired many young bands and successfully claimed the title of Intermediate Battle Of The Bands winner numerous times over his many years as rock band mentor. The band has a great energy generated from their common love of music and their great companionship. They have a very busy summer of gigs ahead of them.
EXIT 420 are a teenage rock band from Takapuna Grammar School. Sharing a love of writing and performing good songs they formed early in 2011 to showcase their music at Smokefree Rockquest, making it into the North Shore Regional Finals in 2011 and 2012. Gigging regularly around the North Shore they love to perform both covers and originals.
Carla Te Paa joined the band early 2012 to add her stunning vocals to the mix. A keen dancer and performer she has recently won a scholarship for her dance, and won the schools’ Idol competition and Auckland Intermediate Battle of the Bands in 2011. Sam Parkin is a passionate guitarist. He can often been seen busking in Takapuna, honing his skills and raising funds for that next concert ticket.
Zander Ling is a talented bass player and is the prankster of the group. EXIT 420 drummer Elijah Whyte won the North Shore Smokefree Rockquest Musicianship award in 2011. Zander and Elijah met through music four years ago and have been playing together ever since.
Between the Lines have been together for about a year, meeting through the Auckland School Of Rock. They play almost all original songs, written by the whole band, with the lyrics written by singer Nick (17). Other band members are Gavin (16) on lead guitar, Bronte (17) on drums, and Jake (15) on bass. Their influences include the Arctic Monkeys, Vampire Weekend and The Kooks.
