Indie Club's Beautiful Poster
Indie Club's Beautiful Poster
The second instalment of Indie Club 2012 is with us next week, featuring the considerable talents of Bluebird Avenue and Come Down Kid.
Formed in May 2011, acoustic act Bluebird Avenue features guitarists Danny Crocome and Sam Ogilvie. Having gathered dust for a few years, Danny's songwriting machine started ticking over again in late 2010 and has since gathered momentum - the songs you'll hear on SoundCloud and in live performance are a result of this. The group have been playing venues around their hometown of Auckland (New Zealand) regularly since June 2011 (highlights include playing inside a war bunker twice as part of a folk review, and playing 3 separate live-to-air radio broadcasts), and are continually working on the writing, performing and (occasional, as funds allow) recording of new original music that excites them. They have been the featured Soundclouder of the Day (April 24, 2012), have had a write-up on Brazilian music blog Beat of the Day, been the featured artist on Texas music blog "The Music Ninja" and have had airplay on 5 different radio stations around New Zealand.
Come Down Kid is now back in the Powertool Records fold, under a new guise, and with a brand new EP simply titled ‘Come Down Kid’. In his previous incarnation, Simon Mallett was one of the driving forces behind the indie pop band Bored Gordon, who had several alternative radio hits including ‘Seaside Suicide’ and ‘Peter Pan’. Now Come Down Kid presents us with a new selection of beautifully crafted and moving songs which (speaking from experience) very quickly get set on ‘repeat’ in your head. The beautiful ‘Falling Into Pieces’ was featured on September's NZ On Air Kiwi Hit Disc and has tickled airwaves around the country. He has just returned from playing shows in the USA.
The other star of this show is
undoubtedly the gorgeous poster, with artwork by 9-year-old
Tommy Maitai.
