Another Original Fringe Show!
So this is Christmas, and what have you done? Well a lot actually. Auckland Fringe Programmes have hit the streets and the website contains anything and everything regarding next year’s events!
The fringe cometh only once every two years, and with shows generally running for five days or less and venues seating around 100 people, tickets really are ‘Strictly limited’ and ‘Will sell out’. There will be no second chance to see many of the incredible performances in Auckland Fringe 2013.
Each of the 24 days of Fringe is guaranteed to surprise you. To help you join the dots Auckland Fringe has some fantastic showcase events throughout the season:
Fringe in the Park, the opening event of the fringe, sees Myers Park bursting at the seams with activities for the whole family, refreshments, lost islands and scores of fringe acts sharing their spoils. - (February 16th, 12noon – 4pm)
If you are more of a nocturnal mammal, however, Après Ski is Auckland Fringe’s late night variety show; “After a hard day cutting the ‘S’ lines through the surfaces of the Fringe Shows, come cosy up around the fire with Hansom and Jotti.” Two Swedish guys from Sweden. - (Every Fri and Sat of fringe, 10:30pm, Q theatre)
The undercard is Sal Valentine and the Babyshakes vs Fringe; “I’m balls-deep in excitement and will be dancing toe to toe with select Fringe performers, giving away tickets to shows and generally just, laying it down. Centre stage. Aotea square. BOOM. With my back, as always, will be Auckland's No. 1 band, 'The Babyshakes', picking their fights wisely. You can bet your bottom dollar that shit will be tight.” Sal. - (Feb 15 and Feb 18 -23, 5:30pm, Aotea Square)
Be wary also of a shady character lurking around the Auckland Fringe 2013... The Fakir of Uloo. Most knew him as a shadowy figure in the shadows of late 19th century stage hall productions. Men shivered and women split their corsets at the mere mention of his name. His act featured clothes pegs, cutlasses and hanging tapestries. And then he disappeared and was never heard of again... until today...
The Auckland Fringe Awards pins a tail on it; Auckland Arts Festival throw open their Festival Club doors for the closing arguments of the Fringe. Participants face up to the accolades levelled against them and have their standout performances and productions cross examined and duly honoured. Sal Valentine and The Babyshakes presiding. – (Mar 10, 10pm, Aotea Square)
Auckland Fringe is presented by THE EDGE alongside core partners ASB Community Trust and the K Road Business Association who continue their support for Auckland Fringe into 2013.
KEY DATES:
Auckland Fringe: 15 February – 10 March 2013
Auckland Fringe runs concurrently with NZ Fringe in Wellington and is closely followed by the Dunedin and Hamilton Fringes, creating a nationwide touring network.
