Michael Kiwanuka, one of the most thrilling new voices in contemporary soul music, makes his full New Zealand concert debut in April 2013.
Winner of the prestigious BBC Sound of 2012 and a Mercury Prize nominee, the UK singer-songwriter will perform just two intimate New Zealand shows:
Thursday 4 April - Holy Trinity Cathedral in Auckland
Friday 5 April – Old St Pauls in Wellington
Kiwanuka’s hugely successful debut album Home Again has seen his voice compared to the timeless sound of Otis Redding and Marvin Gaye.
The BBC called it “a rich, weathered instrument that appears to carry more than 24 years' experience”.
Born in Muswell Hill in North London to Ugandan émigré parents, Kiwanuka grew up surrounded by huge cultural diversity. His songwriting, steeped in the folk and soul traditions, reflects that upbringing and echoes the inspiration of Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Shuggie Otis, Roberta Flack and Bill Withers.
“It’s his rich, ragged voice that pulls you in. He sounds like his own man, not an imitator” Rolling Stone Magazine
Experience the magic at Michael Kiwanuka’s two New Zealand shows.
