AOTNZ 2013 MENU - Bringing the arts to receptive audiences
Music, theatre, humour, dance - Arts On Tour NZ’s 2013 line up of acts may be the best yet.
First up, in February, The Eastern, that hardworking Lyttelton band making a name for itself nationally, then Arts On Tour NZ favourites Pacific Curls
(March), followed by Cathy Downes’ Talking of Katherine Mansfield in April.
Haggis Sandwich is the very popular Andrew London’s latest venture with Celtic musician, Steve McDonald. Haggis Sandwich tours with Arts On Tour NZ in May, followed in June by Dancing in the Wake, the story of the extraordinary young dancer who grew up in the shadow of her famous father, James Joyce. Jan Bolwell,
Sacha Copland and John Smythe feature in this production – Jan Bolwell wrote the script.
And that’s just the first half of Arts On Tour NZ’s 2013 menu.
Each month July through to November there is another class act. Duo Tapas (July) features the beautiful Rupa Maitra on violin and Owen Morarity on guitar; exploring a wide range of music
written for this lovely combination of instruments. Seasoned actor Helen Moulder tours Playing Miss Havisham in August, the highly accomplished NZ Trio follows in September and October introduces the Bella Kalolo Band. Bella draws on her mixed Samoan, Tongan and Maori heritage to present soul music that has seen her nominated for Best
Female vocalist at the Pacific Music Awards and invited to perform at both the Glastonbury and City of London Festivals.
Finally, Beyondsemble repeat the success of their previous tour with Arts On Tour NZ, touring the country in November.
After 28 years of touring class acts to small towns and picturesque rural areas, Arts On Tour NZ general manager, Steve
Thomas says that musicians and actors are clamouring to be included in the eclectic mix of arts on offer to rural and
small town dwellers.
“There is a need to introduce city-based performers to a wider audience, and the chance for those outside the main
centres to experience arts of a very high calibre.
“AOTNZ is environmentally sustainable, bringing artists to audiences, rather than the other way round.”
