Viadana Rewards Connections’ Patience
Viadana Rewards Connections’ Patience
The lightly
raced five-year-old mare Viadana lived up to her potential
and justified her position as race favourite with a
commanding victory in Saturday’s $70,000 Group 3 Eagle
Technology Stakes (1600m) at Ellerslie.
Towkay
Viadana
is the 12th stakes winner for her sire Towkay
Trained by Lance Noble, Viadana (Towkay x Yeah Nah) has been brought along slowly and came into Saturday’s race with just 14 starts under her belt and produced a career best performance to win the Group 3 by just under half-a-length.
With Viadana now proven at Group level, connections are keen to see her compete at Group 1 level and are looking to take her to the Group 1 New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes at Te Aroha in the autumn.
Bred: Little Avondale Trust. Offered: Little Avondale Stud. Purchased: Lance & Leigh Noble – NZB’s 2009 Karaka Select Sale - $25,000.

New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2012 Ready to Run Sale saw many of last year’s record results broken in the same month that graduates Kullu (Elvstroem) and Nashville (Darci Brahma) claimed stakes and group victories in Christchurch, and Glorious Days (Hussonet) took the Group 2 Jockey Club Mile in Hong Kong.
Friday night’s victory saw Flying Fulton (Flying Spur x Fulton) win by two lengths to claim his fifth stakes win and trainer Mark Walker was pleased with his performance.
“He just loves the Polytrack,” said Walker. “He’s got a great record on it but he’s also been a terrific horse for us here in Singapore right from day one.”
Bred: Tony & Joe Bongiorno. Offered: Mana Park. Purchased: David Ellis - NZB’s 2008 Ready to Run Sale - $210,000.

Fiumicino (NZ) Breaks $3 million in
Stakes
It’s been a long time since his last race victory
– almost three years – but the nine-year-old Fiumicino
(NZ) showed that he has lost none of his fighting spirit
with a game win in the A$100,000 Listed Frank Underwood Cup
(2200m) at Warwick Farm.
Fiumicino
Fiumicino wins the
2007 Group 1 Australian Derby
A horse that has won two of Australia’s premier Group 1 races, the Group 1 Australian Derby and Group 1 BMW Stakes, Fiumicino (Zabeel x Latte) was brought back into training in February this year after having his last race in the Melbourne Cup in 2009.
Trained by Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes, the son of Zabeel led all the way in Saturday’s race to take his sixth race win – his fourth at stakes level – and take his stakes earnings past the A$3 million mark.
Bred: Graham De Gruchy and Sir Patrick & Lady Hogan. Offered: Cambridge Stud. Purchased: Nick Moraitis – NZB’s 2005 Karaka Premier Sale - $425,000.

Cassini Defends Wanganui Cup Title
In foal mare Cassini produced a stylish performance to successfully defend her $50,000 Listed Cambridge Thoroughbred Lodge Wanganui Cup (2040m) title by half-a-length at Wanganui on Saturday.
Trained by Mark Oulaghan, Cassini (Reset x Mathematical) isn’t too far off retirement, being in foal to Towkay, but continues to improve her residual value with another well-earned black type success.
Cassini now looks poised to follow a similar program to last year’s successful raid on the Group 3 Manawatu Cup (2300m). A trip to Wellington for the Trentham Stakes may also be on the cards before she retires to stud.
Bred: Doug Dean. Offered: Lyndhurst Farm. Purchased: Gail Drought NZB’s 2007 Karaka Premier Sale - $120,000.
