Saturday 01 December 2012 12:00 and repeated at 5pm – Heketerangi Broadhurst: King Tuheitia Letter
This week Kingi Tuheitia issued a letter to all tribal Waikato-Tainui members expressing his displeasure around the ongoing internal conflicts amongst those who are in leadership roles for the iwi, along with the unnecessary waste of resources to resolve the issues, by using the courts as an option.
In doing this Kingi Tuheitia has also publicly given his support to Tukoroirangi Morgan to contest the highly disputed position of Chair of Te Kauhanganui, while asking the current Chair Tania Martin and members of the Te Arataura to stand down.
This is unprecedented, and with the Maori king getting involved, many believe this is beneath his status and will have a detrimental effect on the entire kingitanga movement.
Waikato – Tainui kuia Heketerangi Broadhurst, who is also a staunch supporter of the kingitanga discusses with Ngawai her view that this letter has had on not only Waikato-Tainui but Maoridom as a whole. A hui on December 8th has been set for Te Kauhanganui, Te Ara Taura and Iwi dignatories to meet at Turangawaewae Marae regarding other issues stated in the letter.
