Nominees Announced for People’s Choice Movie Awards
Film website Flicks.co.nz has announced the nominees for 17 categories in The TelstraClear Flicks.co.nz People's Choice Movie Awards. These brand-spanking new awards will let the people of New Zealand bestow recognition on their favourite films of 2012, covering a range of genres, recognising a variety of performances, and eventually narrowing it down to one supreme winner – the Movie of the Year.
Amongst a tight field of contenders leading the nominations are The Dark Knight Rises and Moonrise Kingdom. Both are nominated in four categories, as is late entry The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey which makes a last-minute run for victory after its premiere this week.
Nipping at their heels are films such as Argo, The Avengers, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Martha Marcy May Marlene and Skyfall, showing that 2012 has been another awesome year at the movies.
“Most people would agree that we’ve been spoiled for choice by the number of great films this year,” says Flicks.co.nz Editor Steve Newall, “and now I’m looking forward to these films scrapping it out for the glory of taking home one of these awards”.
The award winners are decided by public vote throughout December, and announced in early January before the 2013 American award season heats up. New Zealanders can vote from the 1st of December at www.flicks.co.nz/awards. Everyone who votes goes in the draw to win a huge haul of prizes from Sony, Event Cinemas, Video Ezy, Madman and Rip It Up that will wow even the most hardcore movie lovers.
Nominees were decided after making a long-list of the public’s most-viewed and best-reviewed films on Flicks.co.nz during 2012, and then consulting with the site’s team of writers and reviewers to narrow these options down to the six nominees in each category. The full list follows, and can also be seen – and voted on – at www.flicks.co.nz/awards
