Wellington Designer carves out a red carpet niche
Wellington designer Sophie Voon is once again to see her designs sashaying down the red carpet at The Hobbit premier this coming Wednesday.
Sophie Voon has long been the go to destination of fashionable New Zealand women for bridal and special occasion wear but she is recently carving out a new niche thanks to Wellington's booming film industry. Once all the hard work of filming, editing and producing is done the industry likes to celebrate in style and dressing up for the red carpet on premiere night is a must. Sophie's glamorous style has seen her become a favorite for party-goers looking for the perfect gown.
Sophie will be dressing Wendy Smith who is attending the premier with her husband Kevin Smith, a special effects supervisor at Weta Digital who has had a key role in The Hobbit movie. Wendy approached Sophie last week to request a gown and the team have immediately swung into action to deliver the dress. What might be thought of as tight time frame is common place for the Sophie Voon design team who often get requests from overseas brides who arrive in the country only days before their wedding to be fitted for their big day.
"We are very used to creating a gown at
short notice and it is always really wonderful to see the
look all come together and the wearer looking so beautiful
for whatever special occasion the dress is for." says
Sophie.
Wendy will be wearing the stunning sweetheart dress in Art Deco Flower silk with a bespoke green sash to accentuate the shade of green in the fabric design.
At the Oscars this year nominees from Weta Digital, Daniel Barrett and R. Christopher White were accompanied by their wives Jana Barrett and Jennifer Bloomfield both exuding hollywood glamour in Sophie Voon dresses.
