Hundreds attend Scott exhibition opening
More than 250 people attended the opening of Scott’s Last Expedition at Canterbury Museum last night.
The stunning exhibition, officially opened by Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker, proved a huge success much to the delight
of Museum Director Anthony Wright and Antarctic Heritage Trust Executive Director Nigel Watson.
“This exhibition really has a wow-factor,” says Mr Wright.
“Not only is it spectacular in terms of the artefacts, stories and tales of scientific endeavour on display, but the
significance of the exhibition to the Museum and the Antarctic Heritage Trust is illustrated on every angle of this
exhibition.”
Mr Watson says, “A full scale representation of the interior floor plan of Scott’s hut at Cape Evans is one of the draw
cards of the exhibition. Visitors will get a sense of who lived in the hut and how they occupied their time. That
Scott’s hut still remains in Antarctica a century on is remarkable.”
