‘Die Fledermaus’ – popular Christmas opera for young and old
See one of “Auckland’s 100 Best Things” according to the New Zealand Herald as Opera Factory presents a glittering fringe production of Johann Strauss’ popular ‘Die Fledermaus’(The Revenge of the Bat), in Newmarket from 11th to 15th December.
This famous operetta is a delicious farce of revenge, mistaken identities, flirtations, and light-hearted deceit and is the perfect combination of comedy and effervescent melodies for both opera lovers and first-timers of all ages.
Filled with famous tunes and waltzes, ‘Die Fledermaus’ is performed in English and is traditionally performed around the world during the Christmas season. Early reservations are highly recommended.
Directed by Linda Kitchen with Music Director Rosemary Barnes, the cast includes some of Auckland’s leading singers including Christie Cook (recent runner up at the national NZ Aria Awards), Emma Sloman (Resident Artist with NBR New Zealand Opera), and Cameron Barclay (recent Emerging Artist with NBR New Zealand Opera).
The Christmas Gala season celebrates the end of another busy year for the Opera Factory Trust and funds raised will support the 2013 programme of education, training and performance opportunities for up and coming young classical singers.
For an innovative way to host staff or associates, this production offers excellent group concessions for 6 or more, or by special arrangement the capacity house of 135 seats may be available. The Factory Theatre is easily accessible and situated at 7 Eden Street Newmarket - the perfect place to enjoy an intimate night at the opera and also near to public car parks, rail and bus links.
