Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo excited about summer in Great Lake Taupo
The Taupo region is unbeatable for that idyllic holiday by the lake. Playing Saturday February 16th outdoors at Taupo Amphitheatre, Pat Benatar and husband Neil Girado will certainly add to the region’s festival atmosphere and give visitors plenty of reasons to come back this summer.
“Neil and I are excited to visit such a vibrant part of New Zealand – we’ve heard that the Taupo locals and visitors alike really know how to celebrate summer and we’re sure going to give them a reason to” says Pat Benatar.
There are spectacular events lined up right through the holiday season, with highlights including ‘Thunder on the Great Lake’ powerboat racing on 27 January and the Chiefs vs Highlanders pre-season rugby game at Owen Delany Park on 2 February. The Taupo Motorsport Park’s busy summer programme will provide entertainment for the whole family with drags, superbikes and truck racing just to name a few. For the arts-minded, there are several exhibitions including Big Day Art at the Great Lake Centre on March 9th.
Vanessa Freeman, General Manager for Destination Great Lake Taupo, says visitors to the region might want to start planning for several trips back this summer. “There are so many world class events on that you won’t want to miss. From Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo performing live to the Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain New Zealand Ironman on 2nd March, there are so many reasons to come back again and again”.
Stay on after an event and enjoy one of the many activities on offer throughout the region. Hire a mountain bike and explore some of the internationally recognised trails, go jet boating, sailing, kayaking, bungy jumping, sky diving and white water rafting, or enjoy a more leisurely pursuit such as golf or trout fishing. Either way, there are opportunities galore for a new adventure.
