English Batsman Phil Mustard Has Been Announced As One Of The Aces Overseas Professionals for the HRV Cup
Mustard will be available for the rest of the HRV Cup which recommences for the Aces at Eden Park on Friday December 21st. He will arrive early to play in the Aces Plunket Shield match immediately preceding that game.
Mustard has played 12 international matches for England and toured with the national side the last time they were in New Zealand. He has just enjoyed a great season in county cricket for Durham, especially in the 40 over competition where he smashed close to 500 runs at an average approaching 50, and all at a strike-rate of 143.
A hard hitting opening batsman and wicket-keeper, Mustard will be not be required to do much of the latter but the Aces will be looking to him to get them off to the kind of starts that were a hallmark of their HRV Cup winning form last season.
Aces coach Paul Strang is confident that the Englishman will fit in well to the Aces line-up.
"We're looking forward to his arrival and think that he'll be a great addition to the side. He's played at the highest level and will bring the attitude and determination that goes with that. He's also a proven performer at the top of the order which is what we need for the HRV Cup."
Mustard is also looking forward to the chance to get involved with the Aces
"Back in 2008 I played a couple of T20's and ODI's for England out in New Zealand and had a great time so I am very excited to be joining the Auckland Aces. They showed what a good side they are in the recent Champions League in South Africa with the wins over Sialkot, Hampshire and Kolkata Knight Riders.
"I am very grateful for the opportunity that Auckland has given me and I hope I can help them defend their HRV CupTwenty20 Title. I still believe I have something to offer England especially in the shorter formats of the game and scoring runs and achieving success with Auckland in the HRV Cup can only help. I am looking forward to getting out to New Zealand and joining up with Paul Strang and the guys".
