Our Lady of Kaikohe? - Big Image
For Immediate Media Release
A Marian apparition may be occurring in Kaikohe, Northland New Zealand. From a certain angle an image of a mother and child is clearly seen in the community Christmas tree lights. A Marian apparition is an event in which someone believes the Blessed Virgin Mary has supernaturally appeared to one or more people. The tree decorators say that while it may not be supernatural, it is a surprising coincidence that the image was formed. They did not plan for any image other than a Star of David (the national symbol of Israel) on top of the tree, unaware that Israel was at war in Gaza. Is this a message to pray for peace? Marian apparitions are often named after the town where they were reported, or the colloquial name given to Mary on the occasion of the apparition. Could this be the Blessed Virgin of Kaikohe, the Madonna and Child or Te Whaea o te Ao? Organizers of the community Christmas tree took on the project to uplift the spirits of the people of Kaikohe and kick off the inaugural Shine Kaikohe festival.
The main street of Kaikohe has been festooned with decorations, a Santa’s Grotto and life-sized interactivity nativity scene are taking form and the Christmas parade is on December 8th. Other activities include a Guinness Book of Records attempt at the playing of the most guitars after the parade and a busker’s day on the 22nd. At the busker’s day a six $500 New World grocery hamper prizes will be drawn. Over Christmas churches will be holding special services and the festival concludes with a Wearable Art Show where models will grace the cat walk wearing clothes made from baling twine and feedbags at the Kaikohe Agricultural and Pastoral Show on January 12th.
