Over one million dollars in Māori Language Community Grants announced
Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori has announced that it will distribute $1,338,850 in Māori language grants through the
community based Mā te Reo fund.
The grants are being offered to 47 community groups across the country.
“The grants support communities to identify their own Māori language goals and projects for implementation,” says Te
Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori CE Glenis Philip-Barbara.
“There is high demand for community based Māori language funding, and 2012 was no exception”.
“Mā te Reo has provided community based Māori language grants for 12 years now, and Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori looks
forward to working with the current round of grant recipients to grow and promote te reo in communities all over
Aotearoa.
The Mā Te Reo team works closely with each grant recipient to support the success of their project, whether they are
making language resources, developing iwi, hapū, whānau and marae based language plans, promoting the language through
events or running immersion wānanga.”
