TV And Radio Coverage Confirmed for 2012 Maori Sports Awards
National Maori radio programme producer, Waatea 603AM, and indigenous channel, Maori Television, will both broadcast from the 2012 Maori Sports Awards on Saturday November 24.
Tamaki Makaurau iwi radio station Waatea will broadcast live on its Auckland 603AM frequency, to the iwi radio network and via its website, www.waateanews.com, from 5.00 pm to 11.00 pm.
Maori Television will screen a one-and-a-half hour highlights package – presented by Te Arahi Maipi and Wairangi Koopu – from 8.30 pm that night.
A total of 22 Olympians, three Paralympians, 11 world champions and four world champion teams will be honoured at the 22nd awards ceremony to be hosted by Te Tohu Taakaro o Aotearoa Charitable Trust at Auckland’s TelstraClear Pacific Events Centre.
Winners in 10 categories will be announced including Maori sports administrator; umpire/referee; sportsperson with a disability; coach; media; junior sportsman and woman; senior sportsman and woman; and sports team.
On-stage entertainment will include Kiwi music icon, Annie Crummer; award-winning singer-songwriter, Maisey Rika, accompanied by brother, JJ Rika, on guitar; dance group Hawaiki Tu Haka Theatre; this year’s Homai Te Pakipaki winner, Hukanui Brown; and New Zealand’s Got Talent sensation, JGeeks.
