Gold Medal Famous – Two Tours Collide
Gold Medal Famous – Two Tours Collide
Wellington avant-garde pop group Gold Medal Famous are taking their eclectic new album ‘100% Pure’ on a North Island tour starting November 17 in Masterton (at the aptly named Golden Shears). Showcasing the various styles and thematic hang-ups of the band at this point in time, '100% Pure' continues the Gold Medal Famous commitment to a wide variety of genres: from electro-pop to the sludge-metal to many forms of experimentalism, there is something on ‘100% Pure’ for all tastes, and what better way to judge for yourself than to see them in action?
Part way through their own tour, Gold Medal Famous crash into the Tunnelling Our Way to Infamy Tour being hosted by Tauranga Music Sux, which departs Tauranga on the 21st and 22nd of November. A group of TMS acts including Josef Fritzl Family Jamboree, Threat.Meet.Protocol. and Blind Lemsip Jefferson are to play as many tunnels across the North Island as inhumanly possible. The Gold Medal Famous connection happens on Sunday November 25, 2:36pm, at the TMS Tunnel (opposite about 336 Ngatai Road); they’ll be joined there by the Delta Hood Rap Connection and Wheatbags Anonymous.
Gold Medal Famous cap off their tour, returning to their hometown of Wellington and supporting Auckland’s Drab Doo Riffs at Mighty Mighty.

Gold Medal Famous “100% Pure” – the album
Riding on the wave
of New Zealand's Olympic success, Gold Medal
Famous celebrates New Zealand's '100% Pure'
mythology.
'100% Pure' is the all new, all eclectic album
from Wellington avant-garde pop group Gold Medal
Famous, their second on Powertool Records. Written
and recorded over several weekends in late 2011, it
showcases the various styles and thematic hang-ups of GMF at
this point in time.
Songwriter Chris Wilson dominates the album's sound with his energetic and never-ceasing notions of what is annoying in this world and what should be celebrated. Exalting in the hypocrisies of modern day life in NZ, no sycophant is safe.
Gold Medal Famous is Tamsin, Vorn and Chris. Tamsin plays guitar, keyboard, violin & triangle. Vorn features on guitar and keyboard and computer programming. Lead vocalist Chris plays theremin, guitar and keyboard. Gold Medal Famous debuted in 2008 in Dunedin and is currently based in Wellington.
'100% Pure' continues the Gold Medal Famous commitment to a wide variety of styles: from the electro-pop of 'Never be Bored' to the sludge-metal of 'The Buried Life' to the experimentalism of 'Ignorable', there is something on ‘100% Pure’ for all tastes.
Gold Medal Famous wishes to thank Aaron Mackle for the slightly off-putting cover art.
