Hobbit Fan Premiere Party
Hobbit actors and Tolkien fans will party together at the Amora Hotel Ballroom on November 26, ahead of the Hobbit film premiere in Wellington.
The Premiere Costume Party, run by Tolkien fan website TheOneRing.net and LOTR tour company Red Carpet Tours, will entertain hundreds of local and international Tolkien fans.
Jed Brophy, who plays the Dwarf Nori, will be Master of Ceremonies. Maybe he’s just relieved to survive a Peter Jackson movie without dying a gory death, but he’s certainly attacking his party-planning role with a troll-hoard of energy. Brophy is bringing on board his own band, The Last Resort, and hints that a big-name star may join them.
William Kircher, who plays the Dwarf Bifur with the Orc axe buried in his forehead, is headlining with his band, California Dreamers. A veteran of film and television in New Zealand, the secret is finally out that William is also playing Tom the Troll in the first Hobbit film. He is promising something unforgettable for the fans. All will be revealed on the night!
They’re just a few of the cast members planning to come to this, the last big fan party before fame and stardom whip the actors of the reach of ordinary mortals. Plenty of extras and stunt doubles are also expected to attend.
Hobbit film extras form part of the most Tolkien-inspired band in the evening’s entertainment, the Shire Waytes. They’re bringing players from all over NZ for their blend of folk/medieval music, played on wondrously strange instruments from a bygone age.
Brophy is planning some fun competitions during the party. “If you can’t win a prize for Best Costume or Best Springle-Ring Dance, then there’ll be raffles and auctions to keep things lively,” he says.
Harper Collins has donated copies of The Hobbit. After being signed by Peter Jackson, they’ll join other prizes such as Weta collectibles, including a coveted Gandalf statue, signed by the artists.
The party hopes to raise money for Books in Homes and TheOneRing.net, which is run entirely by volunteers.
Bookings can be made through party organiser Red Carpet Tours, who are bringing over a hundred international Tolkien fans to party in New Zealand.
