WINNERS ANNOUNCED:
NEW ZEALAND TELEVISION AWARDS 2012
The stars came out tonight in Auckland for New Zealand’s most glamorous Television event, celebrating outstanding
achievement as the New Zealand Television Awards 2012 winners were announced.
The News and Current Affairs categories were hotly contested once again, and this year 3 News took the Best Scheduled News Programme, while Best Breaking News Coverage went to ONE News’ coverage of the Carterton Ballooning Tragedy.
Mel Reid from TV3’s 60 Minutes won the coveted Journalist of the Year Award for her compelling story about the ACC privacy fiasco, which won
Investigation of the Year.
In Drama, Go Girls took home the award for Best Drama Series, and Siege – the story of a gunman taking a town hostage, won five awards including the new category of Best One-Off Drama. Māori
Television’s Julian Wilcox and Matai Smith both won awards for their respective roles as Best News OR Current Affairs
Presenter and Best Presenter Entertainment/Factual.
The FOUR production of the Vodafone NZ Music Awards 2011 won top honours in two categories, including Best Entertainment OR Event Programme.
Rick Friesen, ThinkTV’s Chief Executive said, “this may have been the most difficult year ever for the judges. So many
categories had such strong entrants it was extremely difficult to choose a winner. Each and every winner and finalist
was most deserving of the accolades they have received.”
Highlights from the Awards Show/Dinner event will screen on TV ONE from 10.30pm tomorrow night.
