The Mo-Mentous Month Of Movember Starts Today
Top lips across the country are tingling today, heralding the arrival of Movember 2012. To celebrate this Mo-mentous
month of moustachery, Ardmore Airport has changed its name for the next 30 days to Ard’Mo Airport and is proudly the
bearer of the largest ‘field Mo’ in New Zealand history!
Husqvarna, one of Movember’s biggest sponsors and supporters of Movember, donated ride-on and walk-behind mowers to
ensure that the job was done with precision and accuracy – with the result being a glorious 200 meter long moustache
that sits neatly between the three main runways of Ard’Mo airport.
Trevor Wilcock, CEO of Ardmore Airport said that the renaming of Ardmore to Ard’Mo for a month was an easy decision.
“Men are not good at taking care of themselves and need to be reminded that it is OK to talk about their health and it
is important to get a check-up,” says Wilcock.
“We hope that this very large moustache on our airfield will serve as a reminder to all our Ard’Mo Community that it is
time to do something proactive about their health.”
Also to help mark the start of the hairy month today, any registered participant (or ‘Mo Bro’ as they’re known) must be
clean shaven, so shave stations have been set up inside official Mo-Hubs; Shaky Isles in Auckland and in Wellington,
Public on Courtenay Place from 7am to 11am to tidy up upper lips for itchy days of growth ahead.
The phenomenon that is Movember was established in Australia in 2003 and is now a global men’s health movement. It
raises vital funds and awareness for men’s health in New Zealand, and for the next 30 days across 21 countries it will
harness and shape the incredible support from Mo Bros and Mo Sistas worldwide - and this year hopes to involve more one
million participants.
New Zealand Movember Manager, Rob Dunne says “This Movember, we’re encouraging all Kiwi guys to both seek and share
knowledge and wisdom with loved ones,” says Dunne.
“Don’t be afraid to learn about your family’s health history and predispositions and to understand the risks you
possibly face. These simple actions can have a significant impact of the quality and longevity of a man’s journey
through his life.”
Mo Bro and Mo Sista Ambassadors for New Zealand in 2012 include All Black Brodie Retallick, Aaron Mauger, Jared Hoeata,
Maz Quinn, Matt Watson, Wairangi Koopu, Jay Reeve, Willie Lose, Jamie McKay, Ray Barker, Murry Sweetpants, Brendan
Pongia, John McBeth, Chris Sisarich and Will Hall – all who will be trimming and fashioning their top lips into
bristling magnificence.
But even this stellar line-up of amazing Mo Bro ambassadors admit they can’t do it alone, so this year they have support
of Olympic size proportions! Olympic Gold Medalist Eric Murray - who arguably has New Zealand’s most famous blonde
facial hair - will be guiding Mo Bro’s with his top-tips on grooming, and advising Mo Bro’s on how to get the best of
their Mo’s.
Rounding up the official support this year is two of New Zealand’s leading ladies who are lending their support as
official ‘Mo Sisters’.
Sports star and Sky TV presenter Melodie Robinson will be cheering on and inspiring Mo Bro’s throughout their Mo growth
cycle, as will actress and TV Presenter Jo Holley.
Mo Bros and Sistas can still register as individuals or teams at www.movember.com where they create their own Mo Space page, an easy place for others to donate and show their support.
