Who Will Be Our Millionth Bum?

Who Will Be Our Millionth Bum?

This month, Circa Theatre will sell the millionth ticket through our waterfront box office – that’s one million ‘Bums on Seats’ in 18 years! To celebrate this milestone, Circa will honour the Millionth Patron at a gala event on Monday, 5 November. But the question remains, who will be our Millionth Bum?

“We are thrilled to have achieved this landmark number of ticket sales and are so grateful to our valuable Patrons, Friends and Sponsors for their continued support,” said Ray Henwood, Circa Council Co-ordinator. “We look forward to rewarding the Millionth Patron with a fabulous prize at next Monday’s event!”

The identity of the Millionth Patron will not be announced until Monday’s event, when he or she will make a special arrival by helicopter with event host, 7 Days’ Dai Henwood. Circa will also launch a new fundraising campaign at the event, presented by the Hon. Chris Finlayson, Minister of Arts and Culture, with the vision of upgrading the seating in Circa One, as well as the overall building and facilities.

In 1976, Circa Theatre opened on Harris Street, a small theatre space managed and run by a breakaway group of actors and theatre practitioners who decided a new way of producing theatre was required for New Zealand. In 1994, after 18 years of presenting some of the liveliest and most innovative theatre in New Zealand, Circa moved into the much larger, purpose-built building on Wellington’s Waterfront. Since then, Circa Theatre has continued its tradition of producing the highest quality professional theatre in Wellington.
