World Record Washed Away
Saturday, 27 October, Repco New Zealand and Repco Australia smashed the current Guinness World Record of “Most Cars Washed” in a day*, cleaning over 6,723 cars in eight hours.
Hundreds of people drove in to the Mt Wellington Repco Superstore in Auckland to take part in a Guinness World Record attempt. Cars were washed and polished all day, while their drivers sat back and enjoyed all the action.
Music, sausage sizzles, balloons and prizes were all on offer as one car after another was washed in order to meet the challenge of “Most Cars Washed” in a day.
Australians across the ditch also took part, with over 100 Repco stores in total working together to achieve 6,723 car washes, breaking the current record of 4,334 cars.
“We were blown away with the amazing effort put in by everyone involved. It was a sight to behold – hundreds of cars lined up, with all the car wash stations full and staff furiously washing to break the world record.
“It was wonderful to see so many people take part in our Guinness World Record attempt at Repco. After 90 years of serving New Zealand drivers, we were thrilled to be sharing this special occasion with our customers,” says Mark Brunton, Executive General Manager, Repco New Zealand.
All proceeds made from the sale of car washes have been donated to GirlGuiding New Zealand and Girl Guides Australia. The charities provide leadership and personal skills development to girls and young women throughout Australasia.
“Our Girl Guides had so much fun at Repco’s event and we are very appreciative to be Repco’s chosen charity for all of the funds raised on the day. The donation will help our organisation to continue our work within the community,” says Jane Smithson, Marketing & Advocacy Manager, GirlGuiding New Zealand.
"At Repco, we are committed to supporting local communities and take great pride in being able to give back," continues Brunton.
All of the car washes undertaken in Australia and New Zealand were recorded for the Guinness World Records under strict protocol. Adjudicators will tally up all the results from across Australasia and send an official certificate confirming that Repco holds the new title of “Most Cars Washed” in a day.
The world record attempt was held on Saturday 27 October. Car washes operated in New Zealand at Mt Wellington Repco Superstore from 11am – 5pm.
