World Champions And The Corporate Community Line Up For Charity Surfaid
Four former world champion surfers are lining up to take on Sydney’s corporate world in the BlackBerry SurfAid Cup at Queenscliff Beach, Sydney, on Friday 2 November.

Layne Beachley, Tom Carroll, Damien Hardman and Martin Potter will be donning the coloured singlet to help raise money for humanitarian organization SurfAid.

Fourteen corporate teams have entered the event. The top fundraisers get to pick a pro surfer to join their team of four surfers.

Seven-time world champion Layne Beachley said she was really looking forward to competing in the BlackBerry SurfAid Cup again this year. “Teaming up with corporate surfers and competing in a tag team format against other world champions, all while raising money and awareness for the charity SurfAid, makes it a fantastic event to be a part of," Beachley said.

Two-time world champion Tom Carroll said he’s raring to go. “The tag team format combines the corporate competitive mind with that of the former world champs, who still have the bee under the bonnet, and that creates an explosive combination. And it’s always exciting to see who comes out on top,” Carroll said.

Last year Perpetual won the fundraising trophy and their Deputy Head of Australian Equities, Charlie Lanchester, said he was both excited and a little nervous to be competing again this year.

“It is great to see the amazing support from the top echelons of surfing,” Lanchester said.

“For an amateur like myself it is a great privilege to surf alongside the likes of Tom Carroll, Martin Potter, Damien Hardman and Layne Beachley. More importantly, team Perpetual will be doing its best to defend its fundraising title and raise as much as we can for this excellent cause. I hope that we can do a bit better in the actual comp this year and take the title from CBA.”

The Commonwealth Bank team is the defending champions. CBA Chief Currency Strategist and Head of International Economics, Richard Grace, said they were looking forward to defending their title. “Everyone is just as excited, and we are hoping to raise more money than we did last year for this worthwhile charity,” he said.

The SurfAid Cup will run from 9am - 5pm at Queenscliff Beach on Friday 2 November (entry is free for spectators).
