MoBro makes a run for it
PRESS RELEASE - For Immediate Release
STARTS
Movember is coming, and Aaron McConchie is making a run for it.
The Movember veteran of eight years will be undertaking the inaugural Mo300, a personal challenge in which he aims to run 300km spread over the month of November.
Mr McConchie will run 10km each day or do one hour of exercise, and hopes people will jump on board and join him at 7am at the 0km mark in St Heliers.
Movember, during which men grow moustaches to raise money and awareness for men's health, runs for the whole of November.
“It's really just a way of bringing men's health to people's attention again,” says McConchie, whose own grandfather died of prostate cancer which spread to his spine and brain.
“Men tend not to access health services, or pay the same kind of attention to their health as women do. We're slack about it, and even just raising awareness of the importance of the issue is really crucial.” He says this is a way to have fun and raise the important issues, whilst experiencing real health benefits.
Mr McConchie, a sculptor and graphic artist, has participated in a variety of undertakings of his own accord for the Movember Foundation, including selling customised frisbees and art prints, and organising the annual Great Auckland Mo-Hunt, an Auckland-wide scavenger hunt.
