Shave Lids for Kids at Motat

Shave Lids for Kids at Motat

Locks will fly at MOTAT on Sunday 4th November when the museum plays host to the fantastic Funrazor event that aims to help the Child Cancer Foundation raise their target of $50,000.

MOTAT is inviting members of the public to journey back to the 1950s for the themed event and get ready to see some spirited Kiwis get their heads shaved as tribute to the 150 brave New Zealand children diagnosed with cancer each year.

The day will feature fun family activities and entertainment guided by MC and former True Bliss singer Megan Alatini, who shaved her head for the cause earlier this year.

MOTAT are proud to support the Child Cancer Foundation who help fund a number of practical, emotional and financial support services for children and families facing child cancer in New Zealand.
The Foundation receives no funding from the government so the Child Cancer Foundation relies on the generosity of New Zealanders, and events such as this, to fund support services which children with cancer and their families need during their journey.

If you or a family member is eager to support this worthy cause and have your head shaved at MOTAT please contact hprashar@childcancer.org.nz or phone: 09 303 9976

MOTAT’S ‘OLDE HALLOW’S EVE’ IS SET TO THRILL

To celebrate the most hair-raising holiday of the year, Halloween, MOTAT will be transforming its historic surroundings into a night of thrills and chills for the whole family at their Victorian ‘Olde Hallow’s Eve’ event.

Beginning at dusk on Saturday 27 October, MOTAT is inviting visitors to enter a world of creepy characters and eerie activities. Climb aboard a haunted tram or horse and carriage, witness a sugar skull parade, make a menacing mask to terrify your friends and walk down the dreaded hallway of horrors, if you are brave enough.

Bring along a frightening pumpkin lantern to go on display and come dressed in your favourite Halloween costume and you will be in to win a best-dressed prize.

With plenty to keep the family entertained – from spine-chilling activities for those up for a thrill, to not-so-scary for the younger ones, come along for a fun night of frights.

FLEET OF THE FUTURE

Be one of the first to preview Auckland’s train fleet of the future at MOTAT’s new display.

Step inside a mock-up train cabin and learn about the 57 strong fleet of electric trains that will soon replace the current diesel locomotives on the suburban rail network.

Including the complete driver’s cabin and sections of the upper and lower seating areas of the passenger cabins, the 12.5m prototype is on display at MOTAT to help divulge the planning that has gone into designing Auckland’s purpose-built electric trains.

The new electric train will feature the latest technology in safety, accessibility, environmental awareness and modern amenities like on-board Wi-Fi networks; the electric train display showcases many aspects of the new fleet. The visionary mock-up on display at MOTAT features the impressive size, shape and spacing of seats, the seat configuration around the doors, bike and pushchair storage and wheelchair turning spaces.

In partnership with Auckland Transport, MOTAT is proud to offer visitors the chance to check out Auckland’s ‘Fleet of the Future’ and witness the exciting direction Auckland City is heading in.
