Barfoot & Thompson World Triathlon Grand Final: Road Closures And Parking Restrictions
The Barfoot & Thompson World Triathlon Grand Final festival starts today with the Aquathlon, then continues during Labour Weekend 20 – 22 October. Tens of thousands of spectators are expected to flock to Auckland on the weekend to watch athletes swim, run and cycle around downtown Auckland streets.
Auckland Transport advises people coming into the CBD for the Triathlon or other attractions in the CBD should pre-plan their journey at www.aucklandtransport.govt.nz and be aware there will be road closures and parking restrictions on some main streets in Auckland’s CBD and Eastern waterfront.
During the weekend, main roads affected in the CBD include; Queen St, Albert St, Quay Street, The Strand, Victoria St and Wellesley St. Tamaki Dr and Orakei Rd are some of the roads in the eastern waterfront to be affected.

Due to road closures for the event, a number of bus stops in the CBD will be temporarily relocated during this time. In the CBD Auckland Transport Ambassadors will be on hand to help passengers to new stop locations.
Spectators travelling to the event can travel by bus, train or ferry for a hassle free journey. To plan your travel visit www.AT.co.nz The transport network may be busy during the Triathlon World Champs, so allow plenty of time to get to your destination.
The triathlon is attracting over 5,000 of the world’s best elite triathletes, paratriathletes and age group participants from New Zealand and around the world. It is the first time New Zealand has staged an ITU World Championship Grand Final.
