A time for giving
Embrace the Christmas spirit and dig deep for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand (LBC) at this year’s Farmers Santa Parade.
For the fifth year running LBC is collecting at the annual Auckland parade. Funds raised go directly to help the 2,200 New Zealanders who are diagnosed with leukaemia and related blood cancers each year.
As a not-for-profit organisation with no government funding, LBC relies solely on the generous donations from the New Zealand public. The charity raised more than $14,000 at the Farmers Santa Parade last year and is hoping this year’s spectators will match or exceed the figure in 2012.
LBC chief executive officer Pru Etcheverry says the organisation is thrilled to be involved with the event again this year.
“We really enjoy being part of this happy occasion, which is an annual highlight for so many Kiwi families. We are very grateful for the generous support spectators provide and the incredible opportunity to take part,” Pru says.
Farmers Santa Parade general manager Pam Glaser says LBC is a worthy and deserving charity.
“It is fantastic to be able to continue our support of LBC in 2012. LBC does incredible work in our community and its support of patients and their families is priceless,” Pam says.
Around 120 volunteers will be along the parade route in the lead up to the Farmers Santa Parade on Sunday 25 November. Collectors will be wearing teal-coloured LBC t-shirts so be sure to keep an eye out for them on the day.
About the Farmers Santa Parade 2012
The Farmers Santa Parade hits central Auckland on Sunday 25 November (rain date Sunday 2 December).
Start times:
1:00 pm: Pre-parade entertainment, product sampling and giveaways
2:00pm: Farmers Santa Parade begins
3.30pm: Santa’s Party, Aotea Square
The 2.2 km parade route starts in Mayoral Drive, turns left into Queen Street, travels down Queen Street before turning left again into Customs Street West then heading up Albert Street, ending at Albert and Wellesley Streets.
Look out for a new Christmas Train which will chug its way down Queen St this year, complete with three Christmas themed carriages and lots of little elven helpers. Another character to watch out for is chocolate-obsessed Willie Wonka who will work his way through the streets on a new float with all his Charlie and the Chocolate Factory friends.
