NZ Residents Management Team Named
Brent Gemmell has been named as Coach of the NZ Residents for 2012. Brent, who was the Residents Assistant Coach in 2011, is currently the coaching the Akarana Falcons Premiers who this week secured their place in the final of the Pirtek National Premiership. Brent has an extensive coaching resume, with experience of coaching through the age groups, and in Fox Memorial and Bartercard Cup.
Peter Cacciopolli has been named as Assistant Coach. Peter is Head Coach of the Counties Manukau Stingrays team which will face the Falcons in the Pirtek National Premiership final. Peter has been Head Coach of the Otahuhu Leopards for the past two years and prior to this Peter coached age group Zone football.
Morgan Kutia from the Upper Central Zone will be the team’s manager. Morgan is the District Sports Coordinator for Sport Waikato and has extensive experience in man management. Prior to working for Sport Waikato, Morgan was with the NZ Police for over 20 years. He is currently the Head Coach of the Waicoa Bay Stallions in the Pirtek National Premiership.
The teams Head Trainer will be Jason Sayers of the Upper Central Zone. Jason is Head Trainer for the Waicoa Bay Stallions and was involved with the NZ 18s Residents last year and NZ Maori 16s in 2011. He will be assisted by Jon Renes of Rugby League Northland. Jon is currently the Head Trainer with the Northern Swords and has experience as strength and conditioning coach for NZ Cricket, Northland Rugby and NZ Football.
NZRL National Coaching Officer Dean Watkins said, “Every year the selection process just gets tougher. As more of our coaches, managers and trainers progress on the NZRL development pathways we have so many more well qualified applicants for each role. This is great for the game and we congratulate everyone who applied and especially those who were selected.”
The NZ Residents team will be announced after the Pirtek National Premiership Grand Final, which will be played at Mt Smart Stadium on Monday October 15. The team will then play a NZ Maori Residents selection following the National Competition 15s and 17s finals on Sunday October 28.
