62 Cars To Take On Rally Of The North
www.rallyofthenorth.co.nz,
A quality field of 62 cars will tackle next weekend’s Rally of the North with the field being led away by Hawkes Bay’s Stewart Taylor in his Mitsubishi.
The strong field represents one of the best supported rallies in the country so far this year and is also the highest number of entries since 2007, prior to the well documented global recession which drastically effected competitor numbers.
Taylor heads a top ten that is dominated by Mitsubishis, with only the eighth-seeded Subaru of Carl Adnitt breaking the trend. But in the past, it has been shown that less fancied runners can take out podium finishes with consistent results on the arduous roads of Rally of the North, with only four of the top ten seeds taking out a top ten finish at days end.
Behind the top ten is a strong line-up of two-wheel drive cars, led by the Toyota Corolla of Brent Taylor (no relation), but the honour of top two-wheel drive will likely be fought between at least half a dozen cars, including last year’s overall runner-up in his giant-killing Toyota Starlet, Justin Glavish.
Top seed Taylor is one of three previous winners to have entered the event, with defending champion Dylan Turner and 1999 winner Neil Allport also lining up for the event. A total of seven former podium finishers will line up for the event.
Rally of the North, which is supported by Tanoa Hotel in Paihia, runs on Saturday 13 October. Based from the tourist town of Paihia, the event covers four stages in the morning to the south-west before returning to the host city for a lunch-time service. A further four stages to the North of Paihia rounds out the afternoon before returning to the event finish, back in Paihia, after more than 10 hours on the road.
As well as support from Tanoa Hotel in Paihia, Rally of the North receives support from stage sponsors MRT Construction Ltd, Team Ralliart NZ, Rally Drive NZ, Kumho competition tyres, LJ Hooker Manurewa, Dunlop Motorsport Tyres, EcoLight and RCK Contractors.
